Birsa Vahini Helpline

When there is no one else to call, this helpline answers.

A woman in tears speaks on the phone while a helpline operator listens and another person calls from far away.
Not a plan on a poster. A number in a person’s hand, and someone whose work is to pick it up.

A helpline like this was once only a dream. Birsa Vahini released the number, put people behind it, and kept it answering. It is open tonight. It is meant to stay open every night.

A voice at any hour

  • The line answers through the day and through the night, including the days an office would be shut.
  • A person in extreme need does not have to wait until morning to reach someone from Birsa Vahini.

24 hours

365

days of the year

People who can go

  • A call becomes a team: a child who needs someone to arrive, a cow on a highway, a temple that has been neglected or broken.
  • Night patrols go out with law enforcement. Rescued cattle are taken to shelter. The phone is only the first step.
A man in distress speaks on the phone while a woman with a headset answers and an older woman calls from far away.

The call can come from far away.

It may be a kitchen at night, or a city far from here. The helpline only works if someone is already there to pick it up.

What it takes

A line that never closes has a cost.

Someone has to be there when the rest of the world is asleep. A vehicle has to move. A place has to be ready for whoever is reached. None of that is free, and none of it stops on a festival morning or in the last week of the year. The helpline stays alive because people, and money, stay with it.

The person who answers

A night shift is a wage, a meal, and a phone that cannot be switched off.

The team that serves

Fuel, a vehicle, and the hours between the call and the place where someone is waiting.

The morning after

Shelter, care, and the next ring. A line that is open one week and silent the next is not a helpline.

Carry it

Keep the people behind this number.

Give once

This gift is recorded for the Birsa Vahini Helpline. It joins the cost of keeping the line, and the teams, at work.

Give every month

A monthly gift supports the general work of the Foundation. It is not locked to this line alone. The helpline is part of that standing cost: the people who answer, and the teams who go when the call comes. Razorpay charges the amount every month until the donation is cancelled.

Support this helpline

If you need help, call it. If you value the helpline, give to support it.
